(Crewe, 10 September 2024) Bentley is today launching its first four-door supercar – the new Flying Spur, now in its fourth generation after almost two decades of defining the ultimate luxury performance sedan.
Launched initially with the performance-focused Speed, the new Flying Spur is built around Bentley’s new Ultra Performance Hybrid, endowing it with an extraordinary breadth of capabilities. At one extreme, it’s capable of serene, silent progress in pure EV mode for up to 47 miles (76 km), ideal for Zero Emission Zones or city travel, and with CO2 emissions 90% lower than the outgoing Flying Spur Speed. When more spirited driving is desired, the combined 782 PS of Bentley V8 – 147 PS up on the outgoing car – and e-motor delivers sensational performance, passing the 0-60 mph benchmark in just 3.3 seconds (0-100 km/h in 3.5 secs) – half a second quicker than its predecessor. Few vehicles on the planet can boast such a spread of ability; none do so with the refinement, poise, or luxury of the new Flying Spur, justifying Bentley’s claim that this is its first four-door supercar.
Key Innovations and Features
- Cutting-Edge Powertrain: The Ultra Performance Hybrid system combines a 600 PS 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with a 190 PS electric motor, seamlessly integrated within the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. This results in an astonishing 1,000 Nm of torque, delivering not only breathtaking acceleration but also exceptional efficiency. The hybrid system is designed to provide both dynamic performance and eco-conscious driving, making it the most advanced powertrain ever fitted to a Bentley sedan.
- Advanced Chassis and Dynamics: The Bentley Performance Active Chassis features the latest in automotive technology, including Bentley Dynamic Ride, All-Wheel Steering, and an electronically-controlled Limited Slip Differential. This sophisticated setup ensures that the Flying Spur delivers an engaging and responsive driving experience, with the ability to adapt to various driving conditions effortlessly. The new generation of ESC control software enhances the vehicle’s stability and control, allowing drivers to confidently explore the car’s capabilities.
- Luxurious and Innovative Interior: Inside the Flying Spur, occupants are treated to a cabin that combines traditional craftsmanship with modern technology. The new Precision Diamond quilt pattern on the seats and Precision 3D diamond hide on the doors and B pillars exude opulence, while the latest Wellness Seating features ensure a comfortable journey. The My Bentley App Studio offers a range of integrated apps, allowing drivers to stay connected and entertained without needing a smartphone. Additionally, the cabin offers near-silent operation, thanks to laminated acoustic glass and advanced noise-cancellation technology.
- Unmatched Personalization: Bentley continues to offer virtually limitless customization options, allowing owners to create a truly bespoke vehicle. With 101 paint colors, 22 primary hide colors, 11 secondary shades, and a range of veneers and technical finishes, the possibilities are endless. The Mulliner division further extends these options, offering coachbuilding services that can create a one-of-a-kind Flying Spur tailored to the owner’s exact specifications.
- World-Class Audio Systems: The Flying Spur offers a choice of three audio systems, including a Naim 2,200 W, 19-speaker system with Active Bass Transducers built into the front seats. This system provides an immersive sound experience, perfect for audiophiles who demand the best. The advanced acoustic glass further enhances the audio experience by reducing exterior noise by nine decibels compared to standard glazing.
- Enhanced Safety and Convenience: The latest iteration of Bentley’s electrical architecture introduces new driver assistance technologies, such as Intelligent Park Assist and green traffic light prediction. The wellness and comfort features are complemented by an advanced air conditioning system with ionizers and particulate matter filters, ensuring the highest level of air quality inside the cabin. The system also synchronizes with the car’s satellite navigation to optimize cabin air quality during the journey.
Spur of The Moment
To celebrate the launch of the new Flying Spur, Bentley teamed up with icons from the world of motorsport – both young and old. 1996 F1 World Champion Damon Hill is joined by rising star and Williams F1 Academy driver Lia Block in a dynamic display of the car’s abilities on-track, with a surprise cameo at the close of the film by fellow F1 alumnus and now broadcasting legend Martin Brundle – who arrives in the Bentley EXP Speed 8 that he drove for Bentley at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2001.
