Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2024 Features Trackside Artwork by Emirati Artist
Abu Dhabi, 8 December 2024: The Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2024 has unveiled a monumental collaboration with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT). As part of the inaugural Public Art Abu Dhabi Biennial, Emirati artist Latifa Saeed has created a striking artwork at Turn 9 of Yas Marina Circuit, inspired by the traditional Bedouin Sadu weaving technique.
The artwork, which fills the Marsa Corner runoff area, reimagines Sadu patterns through an algorithmic lens, bridging the UAE’s cultural heritage with cutting-edge technology. Executed by robotic painting, the piece mirrors Formula 1’s unique blend of engineering precision and creative innovation, while also embodying Emirati values of tradition and progress.
“This artwork is a tribute to the UAE’s vibrant cultural legacy and our leadership’s visionary approach,” said Latifa Saeed.
With an anticipated TV audience of over 100 million viewers and thousands of on-site spectators, the artwork symbolizes the UAE’s dynamic storytelling of speed, heritage, and technology.
The Public Art Abu Dhabi Biennial, organized by DCT, explores public space through themes of environment, community, and urbanity, fostering inclusivity and cultural dialogue. The partnership between art and motorsport underscores Abu Dhabi’s commitment to innovation and cultural enrichment on the global stage.
