Dubai, UAE, 7 December 2024: As part of its efforts to promote sustainable mobility in the UAE, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is offering pioneering smart services for electric vehicle (EV) users through its ‘Green Charger’ service, which provides the infrastructure for EV charging stations across Dubai. DEWA provides more than 400 ‘Green Chargers’ across the Emirate, with over 730 charging points, as most charging stations can charge two vehicles simultaneously. Below are the steps to create an account and charge an EV using the ‘Green Charger’ account or Guest mode.

Creating a Green Charger account

  • After registering the vehicle with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), DEWA proactively processes the request through digital integration. The customer receives a welcome notification with details of their EV account, the insurance amount and the Green Charger card delivery fees, in addition to the payment link and charging instructions.
  • Non-DEWA customers can apply for a Green Charger Card through DEWA’s website or smart app by providing the following documents:
  • Individuals: ID card (passport copy for investors and GCC citizens) and vehicle licence.
  • Companies: Trade licence and vehicle licence.
  • Government/semi-government entities: Vehicle licence.

After paying the security deposit and Green Charger card delivery fees, the customer’s EV account with DEWA is activated.

Registering through the Dubai Now app

  • After logging in to the Dubai Now app using UAE Pass, select the ‘Driving’ category, then go to the ‘EV Registration and Charging’ service and select ‘Create New EV’.
  • Enter the required information and pay the insurance amount (if applicable) and the EV Green Charger card delivery fees.
  • Submit the application. Your electric vehicle account with DEWA will be activated, and you will receive an acknowledgement with a request number, account details and EV charging instructions.
  • The ‘Green Charger’ card will be delivered via courier.

Registering through DEWA’s digital channels

  • Log in/register using UAE Pass or DEWA ID.
  • Go to the ‘EV Account & Charging Card Management’ service.
  • Fill out the required information and pay the security deposit (if applicable) and the Green Charger card delivery fees.
  • Submit the application to receive an on-screen confirmation with a request number and next steps.
  • Your DEWA EV account will be activated and you will receive an acknowledgement with a request number, account details and EV charging instructions.
  • The ‘Green Charger’ card will be delivered via courier.

Electric vehicle charging at Green Charger stations

  • Registered Users: The EV Smart Charging service enables customers with DEWA EV accounts to charge their electric vehicles by scanning the QR code placed on DEWA’s Green Charger stations across Dubai.
  • Non-registered Users: Customers who have not signed up for the Green Charger service can log in using ‘Guest Mode’ to select charging packages and pay the fees through multiple channels. They can also charge their vehicles using DEWA’s smart app by scanning the QR code at Green Charger stations and following the instructions. Registered customers can use their DEWA accounts on DEWA’s smart app.

EV Green Charger station locations

Customers can accurately locate DEWA charging stations via DEWA’s website, smart app and various digital map platforms like Google Maps, Apple Maps, Foursquare, Factual, What3Words and 2GIS, as well as ride-share platforms like Careem, car navigation maps such as TomTom and Here Maps, and dedicated charging station platforms like Plugshare, Electromaps and Yellowmaps.
