Victorious end to Season 10 for Nissan Formula E Team
LONDON, United Kingdom (July 23, 2024) – Nissan Formula E Team secured race victory in the final event of the 2023/24 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, with Oliver Rowland putting in a masterful drive in the season-ending Round 16 at the London E-Prix.
Following a tough race on Saturday, where both Sacha Fenestraz and Oliver Rowland missed out on points after incidents and penalties, the team bounced back for Round 16 on the ExCeL London Circuit. Having qualified ninth, Rowland quickly gained positions during the E-Prix, finding himself fourth as a chaotic race hotted up. The Brit then took advantage of the leaders needing to take Attack Mode late on, moving into the lead and securing his and the team’s second victory of the year.
Meanwhile, Franco-Argentine Fenestraz battled hard in a tightly-packed midfield, finishing his second season with the squad in 15th.
The results mean Nissan Formula E Team claims fourth in Season 10’s Teams’ Championship on 182 points, while Rowland also took fourth in the Drivers’ Championship, with Fenestraz 17th. Nissan also secured third in the Manufacturers’ Trophy.
Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal, Nissan Formula E Team: “What an amazing way to finish the season! After a frustrating race on Saturday, where both drivers were involved in incidents and picked up penalties, we bounced back with an improved set-up and great pace from Oli to take the win on Sunday. The strategy was spot on to get up to fourth, and then he took advantage of incidents and the frontrunners needing to take Attack Mode to move into the lead. He stayed calm, executed it perfectly to claim the win, making it an excellent end to a really strong season. Sacha also did a great job protecting his position against our most direct competitors and keeping them behind. To finish fourth in the Teams’ Championship and third in the manufacturers’ standings is a real positive and we can be proud of our performance. It was also great to have Nissan CEO Makoto Uchida with us for this win, which made it even more special! This result will give us a boost heading into the off-season. We’ll look to keep pushing and improving ahead of next year, where we aim to challenge for both championships.”
Oliver Rowland, driver, Nissan Formula E Team: “The perfect end to a fantastic season! I never expected to win the final round on Sunday, I got a great start and picked my moments in a crazy race. Once I got to fourth, I didn’t want to get too involved in the title fight, so I waited and hoped for something to happen, which it eventually did and I managed to pick up the pieces to win the race. We should be very proud of our season, the target was to build as a team and we’ve achieved a lot. We’ve been consistently competitive and it gives us a great platform for next year. Thanks to the whole crew for their work and looking forward to being back!”
Sacha Fenestraz, driver, Nissan Formula E Team: “It hasn’t been an easy season, but I learned a lot from it and it will make me stronger in the future. In Saturday’s race we had really strong pace, but unfortunately an incident meant we received a five- second penalty and dropped out of the top-10. A big shame for us as I think we deserved to finish in the points. Today was also challenging, it was tough to fight in the midfield on this track and we weren’t able to move forwards. A big thanks to the team for all their hard work this season and I’m looking forward to getting back on track and showing what I can do.
